The fourth annual Denim Fest is coming to The Mill on Etowah in Canton, GA. The Mill on Etowah is located in the former historic "Canton Cotton Mill No. 1." This property was first established in 1899, by Robert Tyre Jones, a local businessman, to produce cotton thread, but the focus of production soon became DENIM. "Canton Denim" as it was popularly called, gave Canton its identity and led to an economic BOOM in the early 1900s.
In 1958, the Canton Cotton Mill celebrated the national success of denim by hosting the Denim Days Carnival that August. This festival was hosted by the Retail Merchants Association of Canton (RMAC) and brought many people together as they shared food, played carnival games, and hosted several contests and beauty pageants. The RMAC declared August 18, 1958, as Denim Carnival Day, "a day of fellowship and enjoyment for all!" ~History Cherokee
